Using EL Wire for Cockpit Panel Backlighting

El wire is a low cost option for backlighting panels in your cockpit. Not only is it flexible it also generates a soft light which will not bleed thru custom built panels.

Hooking up EL wire is fairly simple, first you will need to route the wire properly around the panel and hook it up to an inverter to power it up.  You will need to properly strip the EL wire and properly soilder it, so get your skills up to par. El lighting doesnt genrate much heat and has a long life.

Coolight.com offers many different colors and diameters for your project. Personally I'm planning on using EL lighing to backlight my cockpit.

EL lighting

Good looking product - I've seen a similar idea using the type of low voltage flexible cable that is used to light up cabin floors in airliners. When set in behind the panels, it gives a suitably soft glow that won't overpower thin panels.
